Let’s face it... we live in a digital world. The days of only using “help wanted” ads are OVER. Most hiring employers have admitted to using social media platforms to aid in their search process, such as Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and Google Plus. There are many ways to use social media to aid in your job search.
Here are five helpful hints to ensure your social media is up to par for job searching.
1) Showcase yourself
Social media is one of the BEST ways to show the world who you are and what you do! Be sure to incorporate your interests and passions into your regular postings. By doing this, you are ensuring that you will stand out from the crowds!
2) Maintain professionalism
While you want to be yourself on social media, it is also important to keep a professional image to the world. However, professional does not need to translate into boring. With every post you create, think about how it may perceived by others-- specifically employers!
3) Include your job and educational history
Social media platforms were created to tell stories. Therefore, you should incorporate both your job and educational history within those platforms. This shows that you take pride in your career. It may be helpful to additionally include hyperlinks to your resume within the bio pages of your accounts.
4) Keep up with your favorite organizations
Social media is all about keeping up-to-date with others. Therefore, be sure to “Like” or “Follow” some of your favorite companies/organizations on your social media platforms. This will keep you up to date on the organization’s information so you will be well informed if a position opens.
5) Maintain your network
When appropriate, social media is a great resource to grow your network. This doesn’t always have to be restricted to just LinkedIn. Use your judgment to decide when it is appropriate to connect with individuals. If used correctly, this is a great way to expand and maintain your network.
