careerBUZZ: 5 Reasons Why You Should Go to the Job Fair, as told by Beyonce

Monday, September 19, 2016 - 8:47am

The annual Fall Job and Internship fair is coming up THIS Thursday, September 22nd, from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM, and we want YOU to come. It is open to all majors and grades, and it is never too early or too late to come learn about potential employers. If the thought of landing a rockin’ job or internship (which we are kind of in college for) doesn’t sound cool enough, here are 5 more reasons why you should attend the career fair:

1.) Employers come to you!

Over 160 employers choose to come to the career fair because they like recruiting Hawkeyes. THEY WANT YOU! Some employers even offer interviews after the fair, so this is the perfect place to hone your networking skills and get exposure to what post graduate work is all about.

2.) Gain more information on prospective opportunities

There will be tons of handouts and business cards being distributed during the fair, so it is a perfect opportunity to gather more information about companies you are interested in, and get contacts for further communication. There will be a diverse range of employers present, so research whichever ones you have any curiosity in, and visit their booth.

3.) Grad schools there too!

If you aren’t looking for a job because you are considering grad school, we will have select Graduate programs there as well! They will have booths to discuss their admissions process, program components, and any other questions that you may have.

4.) Free LinkedIn headshots

What better way to kick start your job search than with an up-to-date headshot for your LinkedIn? Best part? It’s FREE! So make sure you come looking sharp and have an official professional photo taken.

5.) We prepare you

Are you a first or 2nd year student who doesn’t feel quite ready to begin the job search process? No worries! We offer fair tours for those who aren’t actively seeking employment, but still want to get a behind-the-scenes look at how the fair operates for their future knowledge. The Career Center also offers 6 “Prepare for the Fair” sessions leading up to the day of the fair, where we will give you all the tips and tricks to impress the employers. Lastly, we have an app “U of I Career Fair Plus” that allows you to look up employers, find last minute tips, and many more resources that will get you information

Now that Beyoncé has convinced you attend the fair, the only question left is:
