careerBUZZ: 6 Ways to Prepare for the Fair - as told by Taylor Swift

Tuesday, September 12, 2017 - 9:02am

Shake off those nerves and let’s get ready for the career fair!

The University of Iowa Job and Internship Fair will be Wednesday, September 27from 11am – 4pm in the Iowa Memorial Union. Want to make the most of it? Check out these tips!

(1) Be ready – perfect your resume and bring it to the fair!

Don’t get caught off guard – let us help you! Come in to the Career Center on the 3rd floor of the Pomerantz Center from 10am – 3pm Monday through Friday to get some help with your resume or cover letter.

(2) Get business professional and Suit Up!

Attend JCPenney’s Suit-Up Event for some sweet new professional apparel!

Sunday, September 17 from 6:30-9:30pm, JCPenney at the Coralville Mall will open their doors exclusively to University of Iowa students, offering 40% off on select professional dress apparel & shoes. There will be a fashion show, free food, raffles, prizes (gift cards!), stylists, and more!

Me with all my new clothes afterwards:

You can even stop by the Sephora inside JCPenney for a free mini makeover and sample of your choice!

(3) Attend a “Prepare for the Fair” event!

There will be various sessions led by Career Peer Advisors to help you get ready for the fair and answer any last-minute questions. The dates are:

Sept. 20 at 3pm in the PCC lobby, Sept. 21 at 11am in the Main Library learning commons, Sept. 22 at 3:30pm in the PBB, Sept. 23 at 11am in the PCC lobby, Sept. 25 at 3pm in the library learning commons, or on the PCC Facebook page on Sep. 26th at 11am!

(4) Download the app!

Download the U of I Career Fair Plus app (it’s free!) on your smart phone to see a list of all the employers attending the fair this year, including info on what they’re hiring for and what booth they’ll be at.

(If you don’t have a mobile device, check out the Job and Internship Fair 2017 under Events on HireaHawk for the same information)

There will be more than 160 organizations attending, so you won’t want to make the moves up as you go – plan your time out carefully so you don’t miss any of the companies you want to see!

(5) If it’s your first time at the fair or you just want to see the employers before actually speaking with any, grab your friends and take a tour of the fair!

Fair tours will be leaving from the Iowa Theater in the IMU at 11:30 am, 12:30 pm, 1:30 pm, and 2:30 pm.

(6) Put on your new outfit, print out your resume, and go show those employers that their search for the perfect candidate has ended!

Good luck!
