Hawkeye Talent Initiative

All students at the University of Iowa are expected to rise to the IOWA Challenge: Excel, Stretch, Engage, Choose, and Serve. The Hawkeye Talent Initiative is an exciting new program, for eligible students, that provides a roadmap to “Meet the Challenge” during the first year. Through this experience, students will engage in activities that enhance their college experience within and beyond the classroom and serve their community in ways that make the world a better place.


The Hawkeye Talent Initiative includes:

  • Student employment  
  • Academic coaching
    American Talent Initiative
  • Enrollment in a first-year seminar
  • Service opportunities
  • Peer mentoring
  • $1,000 non-renewable scholarship

The University of Iowa recently joined with over a hundred other colleges and universities across the nation to improve college success for students who come from lower income backgrounds. Eligibility for the Hawkeye Talent Initiative is based on high school GPA, standardized test scores, and family income data reported on the FAFSA. All eligible, incoming first-year students were contacted in May 2019
