0 Credit Hour Course and Transcript Notation 

General Information 

  • This does not meet the Tippie RISE Requirement for business students.  
  • This does not meet CPT/Academic Training requirements for international students on an F-1 or J-1 visa doing full-time internships during the fall or spring semesters.  
  • If you have financial aid or scholarships, be sure to contact the Office of Student Financial Aid to make sure you will still be eligible.  
  • Students must have secured their internship in advance of enrollment.  
  • Students are eligible to receive 0 credit hours and transcript notation.  
  • Once the internship is approved, students register for the course that aligns with their college - CCP:1005:0001 Internship in Liberal Arts & Sciences for example. 
  • This internship course provides students with an opportunity to reflect on their experience during a midterm evaluation and for their supervisor to complete an evaluation.  
  • Engineering students with internships/co-ops should register through Engineering Career Services.

  • Maintain full-time student status for deferment of student loans.  
  • Gain valuable work experience without paying full tuition. This is helpful during unpaid internships. 
  • Registering an internship often fulfills an organization’s credit requirement to complete the internship. 
  • Reflect on your growth by completing an evaluation. 
  • Receive valuable feedback from a supervisor evaluation.  

Requirements 

  • Professional experience which relates to student's major field or career interest 
  • At least 80% professional work 
  • Occupies at least one academic term (fall, spring or summer) 
  • Intern must work a minimum of 10 hours per week 
  • Internship must be at least 10 weeks during spring or fall term, or 8 weeks in summer 
  • Requires continuous supervision by a professional in the field (not a student)

Student Eligibility

  • Student must have earned at least 12 semester hours of UI coursework 
  • Minimum cumulative and UI 2.0 GPA (if below good academic standing, academic advisor approval is needed)
  • Cannot be dual enrolled in another internship course 
  • F-1/J-1 International students must also apply for Curricular Practical Training (CPT) via ISSS

To be Completed Throughout the Course and Internship Experience 

  • Harassment Bystander Training Online 
  • Internship Evaluation completed by Student and Employer
