Levi Hacker

Levi Hacker interned at MidAmerica Securities in Coraville, Iowa this past summer as an Equity Research Intern.

What were your internship responsibilities?

My responsibilities were primarily research-based with a focus in exchange traded fund’s (ETFs), mutual funds, and stocks. However, I had other duties that consisted of compliance work, assisting the broker with database management work, updating quarterly earnings and revenues released by companies on a consistent basis, as well as responding to client inquiries.

What did a normal work day look like?

A normal work day would consist of completing the daily downloads which updated our software to current stock prices and any dividends that were reported. There was very little repetition and almost every day was different, which I really liked. There was also no formal training so a lot of what I did was learned on the go.

What was the most impactful thing you learned?

Learning how to communicate with clients and overcoming challenges associated with meeting their needs would probably be the most impactful thing I learned during the course of my internship.

What advice would you give other students seeking an internship?

Actively look for internships as often as possible, and do not be afraid to apply for a job that you think you’re not qualified for. You will be surprised with what you can accomplish.
