Meet Liz Crooks
Director, Pentacrest Museums

What is your role at the Pentacrest Museums, and how do you connect with students through your work?

As Director of the Pentacrest Museums, I have the opportunity to work with students at many different stages of their college experience. One of the most rewarding parts of my job is talking with students about their interests, goals, and career possibilities. As a nontraditional student myself, I enjoy sharing my own experiences and reminding students that there is no single path to a successful career.

How has Career Connectors helped you feel more prepared to turn everyday conversations with students into meaningful career conversations?

Career Career Connectors helped me better understand the kinds of questions students are asking about careers and the job search. It gave me practical tools to make those conversations more helpful and meaningful.

What skills do you see students develop through museum experiences that they can carry into other careers?

Museum work helps students build skills they can use anywhere, including communication, problem-solving, adaptability, leadership, and time management. They also learn how to work with a wide range of people and perspectives.

What is something about your own career path that might surprise students?

This is the fifth position I've held at the Pentacrest Museums. My career has grown through a variety of roles, showing that new opportunities can be found within the same organization.

What inspired you to join Career Connectors, and what do you hope to bring into your work with students through the program?

The job market has changed a lot since I last searched for a position, and I wanted to be better prepared to answer students' questions. Working with and mentoring students is one of the most rewarding parts of being at the university. I hope to offer encouragement, practical advice, and a broader perspective on the many paths a career can take.
