Fun Fact
He has lived, worked, and studied on five continents and crossed paths with many foreign leaders during his travels including the Dalai Lama, Vladamir Putin, Pope Leo, Queen Elizabeth, King Charles (he was Prince at the time), Prime Minister David Cameron, U.S. Presidents Clinton, Obama, and Bush Sr., as well as the political leaders of Mongolia, Saudi Arabia, Finland, Morocco, and Ecuador.

As a child, Jason wanted to be a chef or a teacher. He went the education route, but finds himself keeping current on the hospitality industry, especially when it involves restaurants in Chicago, London, and the local Iowa City area.

You can find Jason walking all over Iowa City, especially Hickory Hill Park where he hiked over 1000 miles in 2025.

Advice for students
Don’t be afraid of networking with someone (especially UI alumni!) in a field you’d like to pursue. Have the conversations and let people share about their own backgrounds and experiences, and how they got to where they are today. You’ll find that people like to talk about themselves. If you give them the opportunity to do so, they will appreciate you for that, and will likely want to help you.
