Residents will train on Day, Evening, or Night shift; specific workdays and hours will be provided at the program start.Independent Practice: Once the resident completes their precepted period (training), they will move to independent practice; at this time, residents will receive their initial permanent position. -- Initial Permanent Position: Initial permanent positions may be on Day, Evening, or Night shift, and will be in the same hospital as their orientation (but unit may change if necessary, based on available open positions at the time of placement). Positions will be a benefitted position with a minimum of 40 scheduled hours per pay period. Following placement, residents can change unit, shift, schedule, hours, or hospital after working six months in total at Kaiser Permanente through the contractual bid process as outlined in the collective bargaining agreement. Program Components: Clinical teaching from our team of trained Kaiser Permanente RN Preceptors- Weekly learning activities based on our nursing transition to practice program. Classroom education courses taught by Kaiser Permanente Nurse Educators that incorporates simulation, skills labs, and lecture. 12-month Professional Development Program- Requires the completion of an Evidence-based Practice Project-   Program Time Commitment: Minimum of 6-month commitment prior to being eligible to bid into a different Staff Nurse II position than the initial permanent position the resident is placed in.Attendance at all clinical and classroom activities is required, and course locations may vary and may require travel which is reimbursed per the collective bargaining agreement.Commitment to not schedule any time off (with the exception of protected leave such as FMLA or other protected leaves) during the course of the first six months of the program.You cannot transfer to other Staff Nurse 1 positions as a Staff Nurse 1 (including ED Residency).Important Information:Travel:The medical center you apply to will be your primary training location for clinical immersion.During your training you may be required to shadow, visit, or spend limited time in another Kaiser Permanente department or facility.Professional Development Program:Attendance, and completion, of the professional development program is mandatory for Nurse Residents- Nurse Residents will be required to fill out anonymous surveys to measure your transition-to-practice experience. Administers contrast as needed for better visualization of wall segments and performs bubble studies.  Notifies the cardiologist of urgent conditions demonstrated on echo’s performed.  Obtains diagnostic wall motion information in a timely fashion (generally less than 90 seconds) on both stress and dobutamine echocardiography.  Prepares the patient for transesophageal echocardiography, educates them about the procedure and be sufficiently skilled with the equipment to assist the cardiologist in obtaining a high quality study.   Vascular Ultrasound: Performs diagnostically adequate examinations of various arteries and veins.  Locates and records internal elements of the body such as vessels, organs and tissues; and displays their position and function.  Identifies any anomaly indicative of disease, injury, or other medically significant condition of the blood vessels from ultrasound imaging and simultaneous recordings of the Doppler.   Patient Education: Instructs patients in correct pretest preparation.  Obtains signed consent for stress echocardiograms and transesophageal echocardiograms.  Independently and thoroughly instructs patients on each test performed to assure compliance and to guarantee a good quality test. Accommodates the patient’s condition by variations of technical factors; extends standard test methods; changes conventional methods to produce diagnostically acceptable results; develops new or revised procedures using standard techniques; or refines existing procedures. Completes preliminary reports and submits in a timely fashion. Participants may start their services at the Center, and then treatment is generalized to the home or community after it is determined to be appropriate by the family and team.▪Collects data about participant behavior through direct observation.
