This team works across Virginia on stream-building tasks, as well as, bioretention basins and other storm water facilities, therefore grading skills are paramount for this job, as well as the ability to get the job completed within tight timeframes and difficult conditions. The team works outside come rain or come shine and is exposed to insects including ticks and mosquitoes, or poisonous plants such as poison ivy. You might need to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Work is seasonally steady and requires 50 hours and up to 65 per week for peak months in summer (while traveling), 45-55 hours per week during work done locally and with opportunities for weekend work during peak periods. Our goal of the 60th anniversary of these marches is to recognize those people with disabilities and connect it with Jim Letherer, who participated in the Voting Rights March in 1965 on crutches after being invited to participate by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.   There will be a celebration and remembrance event on the Edmund Pettus Bridge which is iconic to the Civil Rights Movement in Alabama. The event will include educational components that will highlight people with disabilities.The intern will be a member of the interpretive staff and will be immersed in the history of the civil rights movement and will go on field trips to visit the sites that are significant to this time in history. They will review our interpretive centers and programs to ensure that areas are accessible to all and will be a member of the resource team in the planning for the event to be held in Selma.
